Michigan Attorney General clergy abuse investigation and reports
Last checked: 15 October 2026
The Michigan Attorney General and the Michigan State Police began investigating clergy sexual abuse in Michigan's seven Catholic dioceses on 21 September 2018. As of 15 October 2026, the Attorney General has published reports on six dioceses: Marquette, Gaylord, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Grand Rapids and Saginaw. No report on the Archdiocese of Detroit is listed on the Attorney General's page.
How the investigation began
The Gaylord report says the investigation was launched on 21 September 2018 with the Michigan State Police. On 3 October 2018, search warrants were executed at the Archdiocese of Detroit and all six dioceses at the same time to seize records of reports of sexual abuse. The reports also draw on a tip line, interviews and police investigations.

What inclusion in a report means
The Attorney General's page says:
It is important to note that a criminal charge is merely an allegation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. It is also important to note that the inclusion in this report does not reflect a determination by the Department that the allegations are credible or otherwise substantiated or indicative of a crime.
The reports cover allegations of sexual misconduct, and some of them involve adults rather than minors. The Diocese of Kalamazoo's list, for example, marks which names in the Kalamazoo report involve adults only.
Giving information to the investigation
The Attorney General takes information by phone on 844-324-3374, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., by email, or through an online form. How to report.
